Pixilation is a special form of stop-motion animation. Real actors are animated frame by frame and interact with animated objects that are animated simultaneously with them. Since many visual effects are created during filming rather than added later in post-production, the technique can be realised with relatively simple equipment and without costly animation software.
As in a classic film production, the workshop participants experience different aspects of filmmaking, including directing, camera work, lighting, animation and acting.
The biggest challenge is acting in sync with the animation. The performers must interact precisely and believably with animated objects, frame by frame.
