CHICKEN KIEV

Abandoned Chick tries to survive

CHICKEN KIEV is a cartoon animation film, which tells funny and absurdly the story of an abandoned child. Without the mother in sight, the newborn chick starts staggering around, searching for food and warmth. It meets shady characters and gets into dangerous situations.

Excerpts of CHICKEN KIEV were part of my final examinations at the Kassel College of Art in 1999. The film was completed in 2000.

Digital Colouring

A crew of 20 students and professionals in Kassel, Mainz, Cologne and Berlin cooperated and exchanged data via e-mail.
It was the first film at the college using digital technique for colouring, compositing and adding the soundtrack on a cartoon animation film.
The animation was drawn on paper, the drawings were digitized with a line test software on Amiga and exchanged via internet. After tracing the animation the 15.000 clean ups were scanned and coloured with the software Animo.

The sound was recorded digital at Solid-Sound and mixed at the Bavaria Studios. The final digital images were transferred on 35mm film by ‘Das Werk’ and combined with the soundtrack at Taunus-Film-Laboratory.
